The contemporary Nook revolutionary wireless reading device being marketed by Barnes and Noble, the worlds largest high street book stall with more than 1,300 branches, looks all set to lock horns with the worlds best selling digital e book reader, the Kindle.
While not long unveiled, the Nook electronic book readers are looking to ruffle Amazon's feathers further by taking it on openly in a area of the market, that up to yet, the Kindle has dominated. Since it's launch, at the outset as the Amazon kindle then later in February 2009 as the Amazon kindle 2 , it has re-ignited the portable electronic book reader market place by offering a mix up of innovative technology, because of it's on the spot connect wherever wireless broadband and also the chief variety of books available for download at excellent, cheaper than the high street, price point.
No doubt after going through ebook reader reviews, purchasers brought in to the idea in a big way and it is only recently that the rest of the trade have woken up to the fact that this is the potential of book purchasing. An so in the most recent couple of months we have had the announcement from Sony of their intent to join in the fun, with their shortly to be launched Daily Edition, and the most recent press release from Barnes and Noble that their own contender, the Nook, will return to complete manufacture in the not too distant future.
There are no misgivings that the Kindle is the device everybody is going after. And to be truthful it's enjoyable to see a little rivalry in this sector. Yes we have had the iRex iLiad but the ebook readers reviews disliked it because it was some what on the bulky side to be a wireless portable reading device, great for office use with the 1:1 A4 imitation, but much like the Amazon dx - another wireless ebook reader - not something you may wish for to take on holiday, or put in your bag or pocket for that matter, and it was on no account going to compete on price was it?
So now we have two big companies ready to go head to head, with the might of Amazon, on all fronts. Sony recently increased the size of their annals at the Sony-Store and discounted the price point of their digitally delivered novels to go with that of Amazons and with any luck Barnes and Noble, who have continuously been in the same ballpark affordability wise, will match them title for title as well.
But the leading news for clients has to be the shift away from proprietary file formats used by Sony corp. in the initial days and still used by the Kindle now. To make clear the state of affairs I will use Kindle2 as an illustration, keep in mind this is even now the situation with the Kindle2 so it makes it crystal clear.
